When I was sergeant policing one of Kansas City’s most crime ridden neighborhoods, I attended tons of community meetings with poor minority folk who appreciated and supported the police. One elderly black gal said her block was so drug and gang infested she slept in her bathtub to minimize the chance she would be struck by a stray bullet at night.
